Billesdon Brook bags Sun Chariot prize

Not Billesdon Brook caused a Little Newmarket upset at the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes of Saturday.

The Richard daughter of Champs Elysees shocked many with a 66/1 triumph at racings Headquarters, after which she failed to win in her five racecourse looks in last seasons 1000 Guineas.
On the other hand, the indications of a recurrence to her best were there for all to see following wins at Chelmsford and Goodwood this summer and, expertly guided by Sean Levey, she swooped late at the final stages to register her second Group One victory – now at 16/1.
Falmouth Stakes winner Veracious (10/1) drifted markedly in the betting beforehand but looked to have made a race-winning movement when sent to the front by winner jockey-elect Oisin Murphy a furlong and a half from the finish, but she could not deal with the strong-staying winner and had to settle for a length and a half second.
Third moved into recent Matron Stakes heroine Iridessa (4/1), whilst front-runner Laurens could not assert the fairytale end for her livelihood and weakened out of the reckoning late on.
